Poetry: Paint Brush

Paint Brush

I keep my paint brush with me
Wherever I may go,
In case I need to cover up
So the real me doesn’t show.
I’m so afraid to show you me,
Afraid of what you’ll do – that
You might laugh or say mean things.
I’m afraid I might lose you.

I’d like to remove all my paint coats
To show you the real, true me,
But I want you to try and understand,
I need you to accept what you see.
So if you’ll be patient and close your eyes,
I’ll strip off all my coats real slow.
Please understand how much it hurts
To let the real me show.

Now my coats are all stripped off.
I feel naked, bare and cold,
And if you still love Me with all that you see,
You are my friend, pure as gold.

I need to save my paint brush, though,
And hold it in my hand,
I want to keep it handy
In case somebody doesn’t understand.
So please protect me, my dear friend
And thanks for loving me true,
But please let me keep my paint brush with me
Until I love me, too.

Reblog: Confront Your Toxic Relationships – O, The Oprah Magazine

Confront Your Toxic Relationships – O, The Oprah Magazine.

Greetings darlings

Just thought I’d share this post I came across on the Oprah Magazine website. The topic is dealing with toxic relationships and confronting them by asking yourself questions about the nature and dynamic of these relationships.

We’ve all had to deal with a toxic partnership, friendship, colleague or even a family member in our lives at some point. How we deal with these situations can either help us grow in a positive or a negative manner. Hopefully you choose the former 🙂

Hope you enjoy this post.

3 Cures For A Quarter-Life Crisis

Two years ago, I was stuck in a job that made me miserable and living a city I hated. Every time my alarm went off in the morning, I’d feel a shooting pain go up and down my back. I used to call this pain my “Morning Edition,” because it coincided with NPR waking me up.

My Morning Edition would shoot up and down my back when I was tying my tie before leaving the house, riding the bus to work, and when I scanned my ID badge on the way in to the office. I’d feel it on the elevator ride upstairs, in weekly team meetings when we went over bullet-pointed to-do lists and discussed “best practices,” and when I was out a bar with friends, feeling my Blackberry vibrate with an email from my boss at 10pm.

The pain, which manifested itself physically as…

You are enough. For yourself. For those who matter.

Morning folks

I just want to put some positivity out there into the Universe with today’s post. There’s nothing like a little motivation and self encouragement to get you through a difficult time in your life.

For those who are feeling like life is just getting them down or not working out the way you’ve planned, rest assured you are not alone. It may be cliche but I well and truly believe in the saying that, “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.”

You are brave, you are beautiful, you are enough. You are enough for yourself, you are enough for those who love you and for those who matter most in your life. Don’t give up, your silver lining is closer than you think.

Happy Friday, have a great weekend y’all 🙂
